Solid Wedge

The solid wedge gate valve, uses two inclined seats and a slightly mismatched inclined gate that allows for tight shutoff, even against higher pressure. The inclined seats are designed 5 deg to 10 deg from the vertical plane, while the inclined gat can be designed with a close, but not exact angle.

When the seat and gate angles are slightly mismatches, either the seat or gate conform with each other as the manual actuator force is applied. This can be accomplished through either a floating seat and a solid wedge gate or by a flexible or a split wedge gate that provides flexure (or “give”) of the gate seating surface. Also, pressure energized elastomeric inserts can be installed on a solid gate to provide a tight seal.
